Description: | Transcription and audio recording of Temiar text Cənal Hɛnwaŋ. The audio recording is extracted from the Temiar stories cassette (Cənal Hɛnwaŋ is the first text on the tape) and the transcription is from a thin school notebook from 1979 containing only this transcription. Notes about the recording are on pp.71-76 of the 1979 Lanoh notebook LNHGBIA790106_001. Here Benjamin writes that the story comes from Rəŋaaj, and was taught by his maternal grandfather, a Lanoh, who told the story in Kuy Laleeʔ. The həʔ-sayer is Tuŋnɔm. The dialect of the speaker is Tumŋɔɔʔ (incl. Kewaaʔ, Dɛnlaaʔ, Rəŋaaj), and the speaker recognises that vowel-lengths are different from Kemar upstream and elsewhere. The story is told in a variety of Temiar that has key differences as compared to the variety that Benjamin is used to, which G. Diffloth says was the original Temiar variety. This is the variety referred to as 'North-Western Temiar' by Benjamin in papers. | |
