The dissertation itself will focus on evidentiality in the language, but the documentation aims to encompass as broad a set of linguistic and cultural practices as possible. Most interviews were carried out by native Kichwa researchers, and are therefore monolingual in Kichwa. The topics addressed cover the recent history of the Amazonian Kichwa, folktales, everyday life and ceremonies. | |
| Another metadata lost in translation, so again, writing this on July 1, while trying to bring some order into the corpus. Now that I think about it, this bundle should be divided in 2 - the event of the preparation of food, which contains some really good data, and the event at school, which I don't think is archivable, partly because of the quality of sound and image, and partly because the content is not very interesting to anyone who isn't the parent of the children performing. Also, the attenuation of low frequencies was on because of the rain, which does influence the recordings a lot, as I now realize. Mainly processing this so as to give a dvd to the school, even though some files have been cut out completely due to no interesting content or very poor quality. In general, from this bundle I would only consider files 1-9, and perhaps 10, as adding anything to the corpus - so all in all, just about 30 minutes. These files (1-9) were recorded by Nilo, who assisted the preparation of food by the fathers (as a custom, the cook for the mothers to celebrate their day), and this was when natural conversation came up. I wasn't around for the cooking. Now I found the original metadata, from when I still had the energy to write them bilingually ESP El evento de hoy fue la celebración del día de la Madre en la escuela de Nuevo Paraíso (también integrante de la red Sumak Sacha). El evento fue preparado por todos los alumnos de la escuela, en varios cursos, pero casi todo el programa se ha realizado en Español. Desde el punto de vista de documentación lo más interesante fueron los preparativos del evento, filmados por Nilo Andy. Nilo hizo algunos muy buenos videos con conversaciones naturales de los hombres cocinando. Según la costumbre este día cocinan los hombres y luego sirven la comida a las madres de familia. Hoy prepararon pollo, maito de tilapia, arroz, tallarín, yuca y plátanos. Despues del programa de la escuela las mujeres jugaron al básquet, luego fue la comida, y hasta ahora (las 4:40 de la tarde) hay baile en la cancha deportiva. ENG Today’s event was also the celebration of the mother’s day, this time in the Nuevo Paraíso school, which is also part (and the seat) of the Sumak Sacha network. The event itself was a series of performances by students from different classes of the school, but apart from maybe two songs all of it was performed in Spanish. From the documentation point of view, the most interesting part was the food preparation filmed by Nilo Andy, which minimised the observer’s paradox. He did a great job filming, and captured some great natural dialogue between men preparing food. The tradition is that for the mother’s day celebration it is the men (padres de familia, family guys) who cook, and then serve food to the mothers (madres de familia), and later the whole crowd eats. Today, they prepared chicken and maito de tilapia, aside from rice, plantain, yuka and pasta. Would be interesting to get the maito recipe, but I think it might be in the documentation done before. For now, I have only uploaded the files for which I have reviewed transcriptions and translations, that is, files _01 to _04 and _07 Camera: CanonXA10, microphone: Rode NTG2 shotgun | ||
