| Description: | This project is a part of PhD dissertation fieldwork, supported by the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (IGS00166). The dissertation itself will focus on evidentiality in the language, but the documentation aims to encompass as broad a set of linguistic and cultural practices as possible. Most interviews were carried out by native Kichwa researchers, and are therefore monolingual in Kichwa. The topics addressed cover the recent history of the Amazonian Kichwa, folktales, everyday life and ceremonies. | |
| This was recorded straight after the content of el_24092014. The demonstration-interview included 4 traps, the first one was made by Rambo with some help from Klever, and the following three by Klever's wife, Yolanda. We built the first and the last trap right by the house, and for the other two we went a bit further out into the 'isla', but still no longer then about 5 minutes walking. It was an incredibly hot day, and I was trying to multi-task recording the processes and taking picutres. At some point during the recording of the tiger trap I started feeling really bad. I was going around with the film camera, the tripod was getting in the way, and so was the photo camera. Also, it was hard to grasp the whole process with everyone moving around, and the screen was barely visible in strong sunlight. It is also my first of the perios today, so all this together wasn't really favourable for good recordings. At some point towards the end of the filming of the tiger trap I must have accidentaly pressed the stop button, so the last recording about this trap is likely to come to an abrupt end. Also, I seemed to notice that when Rambo was speaking, there were some distortions of the audio and I was concerned this might be the same creaky thing that happened last year with in_20092013 and in_21092013, so I was trying to keep the levels down. But it might have jsut been Rambo's voice, I still have to listen back to check. The other 3 traps didn't go as bad, I think, but because I was feeling lousy it was hard to be objective. Also, no mic distortions with Yolanda. During the filing of all the traps, perhaps stupidly, I decided not to use the shotgun, so the only source of sound is the wireless lavalier. The last three files were interviews in Klever, Yolanda and Rambo's house, about the traps etc. I asked Nilo to keep them brief, which he did - the one with Rambo is not even 5 minutes. Here, we sort of kept to the formula of the previous recordings done with Pablo, only that Nilo was visible in the picture. Also, files _10 and _11 belong to the same interview - now that I am recording in better quality, the video cuts off at ca. 11.5 minutes, and the interview with Yolanda was slightly longer, so the camera split it in two. I am also aware that the whole background of the inteview image is burnt, but the whole house has no walls, and as I said, it was a very sunny day. Also, this was the only way we could face to avoid the background noise coming from the school, where there was some ceremony rehaersal and building works going on at the same time. I am not 100% sure of the names of the traps - will have to check them later and associate them with the right files. Yolanda: trampa yumbitu - para atrapart los pajaros pian pian panga tijta - hecha con hojas y palo para atrapar a conejos y animales del porte similar panwa - hecha con troncos que aplanstan al animal (Yolanda ha hecho con troncos de guineo) For now, .eaf files are only added to the first three files, which are the only ones for which the transcription and translation has been revised. | ||
