Title:Craftsmanship team meeting #5: Water receptacles and the use of balsa wood
naso026
Coverage:Panama
Date:2016-07-25
Description:Water receptacles are made from the leaf of the chonta palm. The palm's bark is removed, and the ends are tied, and this serves to store root vegetables and lasts up to two years, as it is made of a very resistant material. This material was used so that mice could not come in to eat the vegetables. The bamboo-like wood called balso is tied together in a raft form and is used as a means of transport down river. The .jpeg picture files show some traditional crafts discussed and explained in the meeting. The file naso026.mp4 is the first 52 minutes of the meeting. The battery of the video camera died, so they recorded the remaining 6 and a half minutes (naso026-1.mp4) of the meeting with a cell phone.
