Description:This session contains a short description of the Bhote (Tibetan) people. The recording was made in the Gorkha district of western Nepal. Tok Man Baram, who is a fluent native speaker, tells about his own past experiences of when he went to Bhote, in Tibet. He describes the Bhote people and their social settings. One of the topics is how people cover their houses with wooden planks. They stay in the lowland during wintertime and move up in the summer. If anybody comes from down in the valley, they give them a big boiled potato. Because the cattle can’t walk, they only rear sheep and animals like that in all villages. Tok Man also tells a myth related to the buffalo and cow. He makes some proto forms of many Tibetan place names like Kutang Bhote, Syar Bhote, Karung Bhote etc. Finally, Tok Man concludes that things are difficult for Bhote people.
