Description:AM talks about Kisin, the lord of death or 'Devil".
Lacandon Cultural Heritage is a documentation of the language and culture of the northern Lacandon(Maya), who live in the rain forest in Chiapas, the south-eastern state of Mexico. They number approximately 350 men, women and children, who have retained much of their traditional culture and religion. The project serves as a preservative measure against loss of the traditional knowledge, stories, and verbal performances that are central to Lacandon culture. It also serves as an interactive resource tool for linguists and non-linguists to access data relevant to their areas of interest, such as folklore, ethnobotany, cultural anthropology, etc.
This file was generated from an IMDI 1.9 file and transformed to IMDI 3.0. The substructure of Genre is replaced by two elements named "Genre" and "SubGenre". The original content of Genre substructure was: Interactional = 'Unspecified', Discursive = 'Unspecified', Performance = 'narrative'. These values have been added as Keys to the Content information.
AM tells the story of Kisin, his relationship with the lord Hachäkyum. and Kisin's eventual internment in the underworld.
Lacandón is the only language spoken in this session.
AM is main contributor in this session. SK can be heard off camera providing back channeling. The collectors are present but are neither seen nor heard on camera. There is no one else present during the recording.
SK is one of CK and KP's younger children. He was born in Naha and has lived there all his life. He still lives at home, with his new wife NI. He provides the bulk of the Lacandon-Spanish translations, and is present during many sessions recorded with AM.
The collector of this session data is also responsbile for the collection of all of the data sessions and the whole project.
AM is an elder in the community of Naha. He is respected for his knowledge of traditional Lacandón culture, and his knowledge of the traditional stories and ceremonial formulae. He is one of the few Lacandones who still practice the ancient Maya rituals. He is related to CK and his family by marriage. AM provides the bulk of the traditional rituals and stories for this corpus.
