Description:AM talks about Xut'an 'the end of the world'. The topic was broached by the collector.
Lacandón Cultural Heritage is a documentation of the language and culture of the northern Lacandón(Maya), who live in the rain forest in Chiapas, the south-eastern state of Mexico. They number approximately 350 men, women and children, who have retained much of their traditional culture and religion. The project serves as a preservative measure against loss of the traditional knowledge, stories, and verbal performances that are central to Lacandón culture. It also serves as an interactive resource tool for linguists and non-linguists to access data relevant to their areas of interest, such as folklore, ethnobotany, cultural anthropology, etc.
AM gives his opinion about the coming of the end of the world. The topic was broached by the collectors. This is a continuation of Xutan_AM_01. He continues the topic in Xutan_AM_03. All sessions were recorded consecutively on the same day.
Lacandon is the only language spoken in this session.
AM is the main contributor in this session. SK can be heard translating for the collectors.
The collector of this session data is also responsbile for the collection of all of the data sessions and the whole project.
SK is one of CK and KP's younger children. He was born in Naha and has lived there all his life. He still lives at home, with his new wife NI. He provides the bulk of the Lacandon-Spanish translations, and is present during many sessions recorded with AM.
AM is an elder in the community of Naha. He is respected for his knowledge of traditional Lacandón culture, and his knowledge of the traditional stories and ceremonial formulae. He is one of the few Lacandones who still practice the ancient Maya rituals. AM provides the bulk of the traditional rituals and stories for this corpus.
