Description:The recording of this session took place just after 026_dry_seas. There is an audio and a video recording of this session which is of linguistic as well as cultural value to the Awetí project.
This project aims at the documentation of the Awetí Language, a Tupian language of a small speech community in central Brazil. It is funded for the years from November 2000 to March 2005 by the VolkswagenStiftung in the Documentation of Endangered Languages Programme. The principal researcher, Sebastian Drude, initiated his research among the Awetí in 1998. The assistant researcher, Sabine Reiter, started to work in the project in 2001.
This file was generated from an IMDI 1.9 file and transformed to IMDI 3.0. The substructure of Genre is replaced by two elements named "Genre" and "SubGenre". The original content of Genre substructure was: Interactional = 'consultation, interview', Discursive = 'Unspecified', Performance = 'Unspecified'. These values have been added as Keys to the Content information.
026 talks about ritual speech at the reception of "inviters" (moretas) and makes comments about the past. ###
026's description is exclusively in Awetí. Remarks or question by Sebastian Drude are in Portuguese.
026 and Sebastian Drude do not have a very close relationship which may be due to the fact that 026, who is kind of a lone wolf, does not participate much in village life and did not show much interest in the documentation project in the past. They are, however, on friendly terms.
026 is one of the older men in the village who is in a more prestigious position due to his knowledge of traditional life and nature. 026 was married twice, his first wife died, from his second wife Japo he is separated. In 2002 he lived on his own in a house which had not been finished yet. His former wife lived with several of her children in the house next to him. In 2003 026 lived in the house of his son Awawi who left the village in July, moving with his family to the new Awetí village. 026 is also the father of 030.
The main researcher of the Awetí Project. See description of Collector.
