Description:Court Case, beach, Njinjópu. Starts in the middle of the hearing and ends before the end due to darkness and bad sound. Not worth transcribing but interesting case. Two young men sentences to dig Jinjo latrines for stealing from P:uum school, carry out a raid on the Jinjo school domestic science unit, stealing new pots and pans, and hiding them in the bush. That is the charge. One (Wéni) from near Wulanga confesses, but the P:uum boy remains silent or refuses to confess. He is thought to have carried out a second raid before the teachers noticed. They are sat on the ground separately and harangued by all in turn. Intense interrogation about alibis and whereabouts. Occasionally struck or pushed. Taapwé from P:uum shoves a muzzle of his gun agains the P:uum boy’s head, to make the point that they are in serious trouble. Huge crowd flocked to see it, like the guillotine! Kostka, Max, and P:uum peace officers leading the investigation. Case continues on session r06_v2.
Ongoing documentation project, 1995 onwards.
