Date:2006-08-06
Description:Sunday 6th /Monday 7th August, 2006. Mw:eemw:ee (related to Miriam Damien on mother’s side) comes from Damenu, asking for ndap contributions for the marriage of his son (just 14 mins). Yidika gives him 2 knives, because his W had given Y two mats earlier, and asked for a knife. She is lepe, a fused subclan with Nkwodo, hence the exchange. Short, worth transcribing, although partly in Damenu dialect.
Ongoing documentation project, 1995 onwards.
Yélî Dnye is a "Papuan" language, i.e. non-Austronesian. It is an isolate - not known to be related to any other language. It is spoken only on Rossel Island.
