		Yusuf is sitting in the living room with his mother, and they are talking for some minutes, mainly on a man from the housing agency who visited the home earlier that day.
		At the start and at the rounding off of the conversation, the researcher is actively involved in the talk: at these points, Dutch becomes the dominant language of conversation, while some Turkish insertions are made. In the middle of the conversation, however, when the researcher consciously withdraws herself from the talk, Turkish becomes the dominant language of conversation, while some Dutch insertions are made.
		Yusuf is a 16 year old boy, who lives in Lombok’s main street together with his parents and his younger sister and brother. His father attended some years of orta okul (see section 3.2.1) in Turkey, and arrived in the Netherlands when he was 18 years old. His mother attended ilk okul only and arrived in her early twenties. He is in a HAVO class at the secondary school which is situated right at the border of the neighborhood, and visits a general social organization for teenagers in Lombok every week. He also visits the mosque in the neighborhood. He watches Turkish television almost every day, and Dutch television every day. He does not like reading: he only reads Dutch books sometimes that are required for his school work. He likes hanging around in the neighborhood with his friends; motor scooters and the internet have his particular interest.
