These tasks partly inspired by the Tilburg ESF team and partly by previous work in Aix, provided a measure of the competence of the learners in French. They were also applied to the Moroccans studied in Tilburg. One of the side effects of the task was that instead of translating in the target language a question or an order given as stimuli, the informant would answer directly in the source language. Then the researchers had to clarify the situation and re- mind the informant of the task instruction. Thus, this task provided a case of "double enunciation" and provided some training in metalinguistic awa- reness to the informants. | ||
