| Goal of this project is to get a clear view of the command of Sarnami and/or Sranan of primary school children of Suriname origin and to study their command of Dutch. | ||
| Dorian de Haan talks with two boys, Jimmy and Anil (both Sarnami Hindustani) about religion, Suriname, especially the food and markets there, and discrimination. At the end or the recording the boys sing a Sarnami song. | ||
| Dorian de Haan is the coordinator/collector of this project. She is of Dutch origin. She works at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands, at the Developmental Psychology department. | ||
| Jimmy is of Sarnami Hindustani origin and was born in Suriname. When he arrived in the Netherlands he went to (pre-school) kindergarten. At home he speaks Dutch and Sarnami. He prefers to speak Dutch and he finds it important to speak Dutch. He would like to have Sarnami as the first language in school. He would like to go back to Suriname one day. Same boy as in 18G, 18H, 18I & 41B. | ||
| Anil is of Sarnami Hindustani origin and was born in Suriname. He went to the second form of primary school when he arrived in the Netherlands. Currently he is in the last form of primary school. At home he speaks Sarnami and Dutch, with his siblings he speaks Dutch. His parents also speak Sranan. He prefers to speak Sarnami, because of his grandmother. He hopes to go back to Suriname one to life there. He is not on Dorian de Haan's list of informants. Same boy as in 41B. | ||
