Description: | CNGT is a project funded by the Dutch Science Foundation (NWO), aimed at collecting a large data set for Sign Language of the Netherlands. All data are available online for researchers, educators and the general audience. The use of all files is restricted by a Creative Commons license.
The signers discuss, roughly in answer to the following issues: 1. What do you think about considering Deaf people as "sign language users" instead of "handicapped people"? 2. What does it mean to be handicapped and do you think that deaf people are handicapped people? 3. Is it better to use hearing aids and speech for and with deaf or hard-of-hearing children, so as to train their auditory perception and so that they will not become lazy in communicating? 4. Is it better for deaf children to be educated in sign language and not to focus on speech therapy and lip reading? 5. Would you think prenatal testing for deafness IVF or abortions are good ways to ensure that a child is deaf or not? 6. Would you support a Deaf famility member in testing his/her unborn baby to check that it should not be deaf? 7. Would you yourself prefer a deaf child or not and why? 8. Do you understand with a deaf man and deaf woman who get to know each other in hoping that their children will be deaf so that all of them can use sign? 9. Is it an improvement that nowadays deaf children attend hearing schools and that schools for the deaf take mostly deaf children with handicaps? 10. Do you think young deaf people do no longer support Deaf activities and if so, (how) could this process be reversed?
