Description: | Participant was asked to pronounce the word for "ostrich" (sg, pl) in isolation and context. When listing the hunting quotas for different game species of the Khoinaphu Trust (Khoinaphu = short for Khokhotsha-Inalegolo-Phuduhudu) during an interview, participant had used a word very different from the common Taa term 'qoye' (sg) and 'qom' (pl) for 'ostrich'. It turned out that he used the word for bird which is used as a taboo word for 'ostrich' in order to not spoil hunting success. | |
