The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. In the ancient times, one of the women of Cabalokkha was killed by a tiger. The place where this incident happened can be seen till now. The village name is kept due this incident. The session narrates the story of this event in detail. | ||
Puma language is used throughout the session with some Bantawa language. | ||
SPR is a social worker. He has deep knowledge of Puma language and culture. | ||
Shree Prasad Rai is an active social worker. He is also the well known person in the Puma community because he knows very well about the Puma language and culture. | ||
Gopal Rai is the student and also a social worker. He has helped the Puma team with different data collection. | ||
He is the research assistant for ethnography in the Puma team. | ||
