Description:In this session, the speaker has described part of the Puma marriage ceremony in which a metal bowl is one of the most important items. This session was recorded at Pathivara VDC.
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Both these districts are situated in the eastern hilly part of the country.http://www.cpdp.uzh.ch
The descriptive narration of Puma marriage in which the Bulukhung is one of the most important ritual part in the marriage ceremony.
He speaks in Nepali only.
The actors were assembling in order to record cultural narratives. CKR and DBR are attending as listerners.
He is the research assistant for ethnography in the Puma team.
Mr Cakra Bahadur Rai is the settler of Pathivara VDC. He is also a Puma shaman. His clan is Thumrahang.
Mr Jas Bahadur Puma Rai is member of the Thumrahang clan and a settler of Pathivara, Cisapani. He is well familiar with Puma culture.
Dr. Gaenszle is the researcher in charge of ethnography
Mr Dil Bahadur Rai is a Puma shaman.He wants to preserve and document the Puma language and culture. His clan is Thumrahang.
