Description:this is the 3rd session of the 6th monthly recording cycle of the child4, Man Kumar for the study, 'Child Language Development'
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. In this session, Man Kumar plays with feathers, he plays with a round piece made of plastic. Around 0:40, he goes to his neighbour's yard and he plays there walking here and there. Total utterances =1238 Total utterances sopken by Man Kumar =428 Total utterances (-Communicators) sopken by Man Kumar =428-43 =385 Total utterances spoken in the presence of Man Kumar by others = 1238 428 =810 Adult to adult utterances =105
Less than 15 utterances are in Nepali and all others are in Chintang language.
Man Kumar is the target child, Ganga is his mother, Nanda Kumar is his father. Pandu is his uncle, Jagat is the man of next village, chhetri gaun, Ram and Laxman are his younger siblings, Man Kumari (our local assistant) and Phul Kumari are the neighbours and Goma is the collector and the annotator of this session. ps there are two such participants whose name we couldn't know, they don't appear in the view but 2 -3 times they speak, other participants has addressed them as 'Kancha' and 'Saĩla'. So we don't have their imdi but in toolbox, we have used Kancha and Saĩla as their codes.
He is elder brother of Man Kumar's father and neighbour and friend of Saphal's father. He has a grocery shop at Panchakanya in Chintang.
Ganga Kumari is the mother of the child4, Man Kumar. She has altogether 7 children. She is a housewife and a farmer. She is also known as the 'Jamlema maili'. She is Lengmuk (a clan of Bantawa Rai) and married to Puma Rai.
She is a neighbour of Man Kumars'. She is a housewife, a farmer and a seasonal businessman as well. Her home is 4 minutes upside away from Man Kumar's.
He speaks Nepali fluently. He knows some Chintang also.

Laxman is the youngest brother of Man Kumar. He is one of the twins.
Ram is the younger brother of Man Kumar. Ram is one of the twins.
Man Kumari is the neighbour of all our target children. She is our local assistant as well. She has passed class 10.
Nanda Kumar is the father of Man Kumar. He is also called Prem and Gaurung Saĩla in the village. He is a farmer. Sometimes, he goes to work on wages and sometimes he works as a porter too.
Man Kumar is one the target children in our recording. He is the fifth child of his parents. He has 6 siblings. The child is very active, most of the time he plays with children.
She is a neighbour of Man Kumar's family. Her home is next to Man Kumars'. She is known as Khuma's mother. She has 4 daughters. She is a house wife and a farmer.
