Description:This is the second session of the second monthly recording cycle of the child4, Man Kumar in Child Language Development study.
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Both these districts are situated in the eastern hilly part of the country.http://www.cpdp.uzh.ch
Man Kumar is playing with his friends. Man Kumar and his friends talk about plum, they eat plums. They counts English numbers like, 1, 2, 3 ... etc. They abuse one another using abusing words like macikne etc. This session has been divided into two parts and it has two video files and two toolbox files. In CLLDCh4R02S02a, Total Utterances= 130 Total Utterances of Man Kumar = 39 Total Utterances of Man Kumar (-COMM)= 36 Others' utterances to Man Kumar = 291 Others' utterances to Man Kumar (-COMM) = 285 In the session CLLDCh4R02S02b, Total Utterances=710 Man Kumar's total Utterances= 224 Man Kumars' = Total Utterances (-COMM) = 224-36=198 Others' utterances in the presence of Man Kumar = 486 Others' utterances (-COMM) in the presence of Man Kumar = 486-63=423
98% utterances are in Chintang whereas only 2% utterances are in Nepali.
Man Kumar is the target child, Nanda Kumar is his father, Ganga Kumari is his mother, Indra is his elder brother. Juna and Bipana are his cousins. Bishal, Khuma, Ruma, Rupa, Basanta, Nibas, Trishanta, Shanti are the neighbouring children. Shobha and Man Kumari are their neighbours. Man Kumari is our local informant. Goma is the collector and the annotator of the session.

Man Kumar is one the target children in our recording. He is called 'maila' in hisfamily as he is the second son of his parents. He is the fifth child of his parents. He has 6 siblings. The child is very active, most of the time he plays with children.
Ganga Kumari is the mother of the child4, Man Kumar. She has altogether 7 children. She is a housewife and a farmer. She is also known as the 'Jamlema maili'. She is Lengmuk, a clan of Bantawa Rai and married to Puma Rai.
He is also called Kuluke. He is the intimate friend of Man Kumar. He goes to school. He reads in class 1.
She is the third elder sister of Saphal. She is the 3rd child of her parents. Nowadays she goes to school.
Nanda Kumar is the father of Man Kumar. He is also called Prem and Gaurung Saĩla in the village. He is a farmer. Sometimes, he goes to work on wages and sometimes he works as a porter too.
She is the daughter of Man Kumar's She is also also the also the second elder sister of Saphal. She is a student. She reads in class one.
Ilu is also called Mansu. She is the elder sister of Man Kumar. She is also a daughter of Saphal's mother's elder sister. She is the third child of her parents. She is a student. She reads in class 3. She helps her parents taking care of her younger siblings and in their household works.
Susma is a neighbouring child of Man Kumar's parents. Her house is next to Man Kumars'.
Nibas is a friend of Man Kumar. He is a student. He reads in class 1.
Rupa is a friend of Man Kumar. Her house is the next to Man Kumar's. She often comes to Man Kumar's. Sometimes she goes to school with her elder siblings.
She is the neighbouring child of Man Kumar's family. She is the second daughter of her parents. She goes to school. She reads in class 1. She often comes to Man Kumar's to play.
She is a neighbour of Saphal's family. She is a student. She reads in class 3.
Trishanta is a neighbouring child.
