Description:The is the first session of the 5th recording cycle of the child3, Saphal to study 'The Day in the Life of Babies'.
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. The session is full of conversation in Chingtang and Nepali languages.
Saphal is our target child, Asar Maya is his mother, Lakhman is his grandfther, Juna, Bipana and Sapana are his elder siblings. Beli, Durga, Laxmi, Khel Bahadur, Sabita and Pratap are the neibhours.
Asar Maya is the mother of Saphal. She is Lengmuk (a clan of Bantawa) and married to Puma Rai. She has 4 children. She is a housewife and a farmer as well. She is Lengmuk (a clan of Bantawa) married to Puma Rai.
He is father's father of Saphal. He loves his grandchildren very much. He looks after his cattles. He often lives in the separate house, 30 minutes away from here.
She lives in Chintang VDC, ward No. 4 at Guranse. She is a neighbour of Saphal's grandfather.
She is a neighbour of Saphal's family. She has five children. Her youngest son, Pratap is the same age as Saphal. She is a housewife and a farmer.
Beli is a friend to Saphal's elder sisters Sapana and Bipana. She reads in class 2.
She is the third elder sister of Saphal. She is the 3rd child of her parents. Nowadays she goes to school.
She is the daughter of Man Kumar's She is also also the also the second elder sister of Saphal. She is a student. She reads in class one.
Pratap is a neighbouring child of Saphal's grandfather in Guranse. His home is 3 minutes away from Saphal's grandfather's home.
She is a neighbouring child to Saphal's grandfather.
Sapana is the eldest daughter of Saphal and the daughter of Man Kumar's mother's younger sister. She is a student. She reads in class 4.
Khel Bahadur is also called 'Khele'. He is the elder brother of Khem. He is the second child of his parents. He is a student. He studies in class 5. Sometimes he also assists in child language recording. He is the son of Kamala's maternal uncle and neighbour of all our target children.
Saphal is the youngest child of his parents. He has three elder sisters.
Durga is a neighbouring sister of Saphal.
