The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Saphal urines in his trousers, his mother took off the wet trousers. She brestfeed Saphal. Sapana makes Saphal wear shorts. There is child-mother interaction in this session. The recording place is new and the people are interested to look at the camera and many people have come. In this session, Total utterances =457 Total utterances spoken by Saphal =26 | ||
In this session, 25% utterances are in Nepali and other 75% utterances are in Chintang language. | ||
Saphal is the target child, Asar Maya is his mother, Lakhman is his grandfather, Sapana and Bipana are his elder sisters, Durga, Laxmi and Pratap are the neighbours of Saphal's grandfather. Khel Bahadur is their neibhbour and our local informant as well. Goma is the collector and the annotator of the session. | ||
Bipana is the daughter of Man Kumar's mother's younger sister. She is also the second elder sister of Saphal. She is also called 'maĩli' in her family and in her neighbourhood. She is a student. She reads in class one. | ||
He is father's father of Saphal. He loves his grandchildren very much. He looks after his cattles. He often lives in the separate house, 30 minutes away from here. | ||

Khel Bahadur is the elder brother of Khem. He is the second child of his parents. He is a student. He studies in class 5. Sometimes he also assists in child language recording. He is the son of Kamala's maternal uncle and neighbour of all our target children. He is also called 'Khele' in his family and in his neighbourhood. | ||
Asar Maya is the mother of Saphal. She is Lengmuk (a clan of Bantawa) and married to Puma Rai. She has 4 children. She is a housewife and a farmer as well. She is Lengmuk (a clan of Bantawa) married to Puma Rai. | ||
Beli is a friend to Saphal's elder sisters Sapana and Bipana. She reads in class 2. | ||
She is a neighbour of Saphal's family. She has five children. Her youngest son, Pratap is the same age as Saphal. She is a housewife and a farmer. | ||
She is a neighbouring child to Saphal's grandfather. | ||
Sapana is the eldest daughter of Saphal and the daughter of Man Kumar's mother's younger sister. She is a student. She reads in class 4. | ||
