Description:This is the 4th session of the 9th monthly recording cycle of the child Kamala for the Child Language Development study.
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote, Devisthan and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Both these districts are situated in the eastern hilly part of the country.http://www.cpdp.uzh.ch
Kamala and Durga (Asu) play with soil. Mother dresses Kamala, Kamala’s elder sister Assu and her grandmother around. Grandmother feeds chicken. Grandmother talks to the two children who fool around. Mother entertains the children with a paper helicopter. Kamala’s uncle is around and plays with them as well. They slide down a little hill and have fun, mother clears their way. Two old woman talk in the background. Mother walks by once in a while and monitors them.
The conversation is in Chintang language in general.
