Description:This is the 10th session of the 11th monthly recording cycle of the child3, Kalpana for the study, 'Child Language Development'.
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Kamala, Kalpana and Durga play kicking one another. Kalpana tries to carry Kamala on her back. Durga tries to carry Kamala and Kalpana on her back. They ( Kalpana and Kamala) pretends to be mothers treating stones as their children. In this session, Total utterances =344 Total utterances spoken by Kalpana =130 Total utterances (-COMM) spoken by Kalpana =130 -23 =107 Other's utterances in the presence of Kalpana =344 - 107 =237 Since no adults are present, there are not AA ( adult to adult) utterances.
The conversation, in this session, is in Chintang language, only 2 or 3 Nepali words are mixed.
Kamala and Kalpana are the target children. Ganga Maya is their father's mother, Harki Maya is Kamala's mother's mother, Ashu, Krishna and Raj Kumari are Kamala's elder siblings, Bhima is her aunt. Goma is the collector and the annotator of the session.
Bhima is the wife of Kamala's grandfather's elder brother's son. She is a housewife. She has a small baby. She has passed the primary school education.
Kamala is the youngest daughter of her parents. She has five elder sisters. She is also called 'Kamal, Kamuli, Kanchi etc. Her mother is Khukkhang and her father is Sangpang, but the mother tongue of them is Chintang.
Kalpana is the youngest child of her parents. She has three elder siblings. She is the daughter of Kamala's father's younger brother. She is also called Kalpe and Kanchi. Her mother is Khukkhang (a clan of Chintang) and her father is Sangpang.
Ash Kumari Rai is the elder sister of Kamala Rai and the fifth daughter of Kalpana's father's elder brother. She is also called Asu and Antari. She is the fifth daughter of her parents.She often stays at home. She sometimes goes to the school.

Harki Maya is the mother's mother of Child2, Kamala Rai and father's mother of the child1, Khem Kumar Rai. Her house is 10 minutes from Kamala's house. She is Lengmuk (a clan of Bantawa) and married to Khukkhang Rai (a clan of Chintang).
She is the mother of Kamala's father. She lives in Chintang only during the festivals. Otherwise she lives in Dhankuta headquater with her youngest son.
Krishna Kumari is the elder sister of Kamala Rai. She is the third child of her parents. She is a student. She reads in class 2.
She is the eldest sister of Kamala and Kalpana's father's elder brother's daughter. She is literate but now she has left school. She helps her parents in farming and household work.
