The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Ram and Khem play cooking with soil and water. They talk with their mother. Their mother told Khem to wash his leg and he tries to wash. At the last of the session, Ram throws mud and stone downward, at that time that goes towards his mother's face and she scolds him. Total utterances = 232 Total utterances by Khem =67 Total utterances by Khem - COMM =67-14=33 Others' utterances = 232 - 67=165 Others' utterances except COMM = 165-10=155 Note: in this session there is no adult-adult conversation. | ||
The session is full of conversation in Chintang language except a few words in Nepali. | ||
Khem is our target child, Raj Kumari is his mother, Ram is his elder brother and Dipa is his younger sister. Goma is the collector and the annotator. | ||
Khem Kumar Rai is our target child. He is the 6th child in his family. He has two elder sisters, three elder brothers and one younger sister. | ||
Raj Kumari Rai is the mother of Khem Kumar Rai. She has altogether 7 children. Sheis a house wife and a farmer. She is a daughter of Tele Rai and married to Khukkhang Rai. | ||
