The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. The session was recorded in the evening in the veranda of Khem's home. In the beginning of the session, he takes broom. He plays with it. He plays with bamboo basket. Khem and his sibling clean maizes removing the wraps/leaves. Later Man Kumari, our local consultant also help them. Khem talks a lot with Man Kumari. He plays with her. Khem sweeps floor of the varanda. Around 00:21 he takes thin firewoods and plays with them. I (Goma) give him toffis, he eats and distributes others. Around 0:43, Som takes his book out and Khem joins with him. Around 0:46, Khem chases chicken using broom. Between 0:48 and 0:49, Khem takes a chilli and Man Kumari talks with Khem about the chilli. After 0:50 Khems elder sibling take book and they sing Nepali rhyme. Khem joins them. He plays with a book when his elder brother Som writes his lession. At 55:56, he plays with a slipper. In this session, Total utterances =1550 Total utterances spoken by Khem = 516 Total utterances ( - COMM) spoken by Khem = 516 -134= 382 Total utterances spoken by others in the presence of Khem =1550-516 = 1034 Adult to adult utterances (AA) =34 | ||
The session is full of conversation using Chintang language except some utterances and piece of rhymes in Nepali. | ||
Khem is the target child, Ram, Som and Devi are his elder siblings, Krishna Bahadir is a neighbour, Goma is the annotator and the collector, and Man Kumari is the local informant of the session. | ||
He is a neighbour of Khem's family. He is known as Khuma's baje. His home is next to Man Kumars' and downside of the Saphals'. He is a farmer. He is from Puma, a clan of Rai. | ||

Ram is the elder brother of Khem and the son of Kamala's mother's elder brother. He is the fifth child of his parents. He is a student. He reads in class 1. | ||
Som is the elder brother of Khem. He is called 'Some' in his family and in his neighbourhood. He is the fourth child of his parents. He is a student. He reads in class 1. | ||
Khem Kumar Rai is our target child. He is also called 'Kheme', 'Seme', 'Kancha', 'Kanchule' and so on. He is the 6th child in his family. He has two elder sisters, three elder brothers. His father is Khukkhang and mother is Tele, both Khukhang and Tele are the clans of Chintang Rai. The mother tongue of his parents is Chintang. | ||
Devi Rai is the third child of her parents. She is second elder sister of Khem. She has one elder sister and four brothers. | ||
