| The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote, Devisthan and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. | Kamala and Kalpana (at Kamala’s house) At first the mother is present and cuts a sugar cane with a knife and distributes it among several children. then they play among several children. They chase a cat with sticks etc. Mother sits on the veranda for a while and works (beats millet). Grandmother comes along too. | ||
| The conversation is in Chintang language in general. | ||
| Kamala and Kalpana are our target children. Phul Maya is Kamala's mother, Prithvi and Ranjana are Kalpana's elder siblings. Puspa is their neighbour and our local informant. Goma is the collector and the annotator of this session. | ||
| Kalpana is the youngest child of her parents. She has three elder siblings. She is the daughter of Kamala's father's younger brother. | ||
| Phul Maya Rai is the mother of our target child, Kamala Rai. She has 6 daughters. She is a housewife and a farmer as well. | ||
| Prithvi Narayan is the elder brother of Kalpana. He is also called Perte and Pecce. He is the only one son in his family. He sometimes goes to school with his elder siblings. He is Kamala's father's younger brother's son. | ||
| Ranjana is the elder sister of Kalpana. She is also called Ranje. She is the second child of her parents. She is a student. She reads in class 1. She caretakes her sister Kalpana in her mother's absence. She is also the daughter of Kamala's father's younger brother. | ||
| Puspa is the neighbour of all our target children in Chintang. She is our local assistant as well. She has passed class 10. | ||
