The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Kamala has gone to the corn field where her mother works. Kamala asks her mother's breast but her male neighbour teases her saying, 'suck my breast'. Her mother and neighbours are weeding out the corns. Kamala also tries to weed with the help of a big spade. Kamala is the target child, Phul Maya is her mother, Ambir is her father, Ganga is her elder sister, Lal and Parbati are the neighbours and Goma is the collector and the annotator of this session. | ||
Kamala is the youngest daughter of her parents. She is the daughter of Kalpana's father's elder brother. She has five elder sisters. Kamala is known as 'kanchi' at her family and in the village. | ||
Phul Maya Rai is known as Khukkhangma Kaĩli by her neighbours. She is the mother of our target child, Kamala Rai. She has 6 daughters. She is a housewife and a farmer as well. She is Khukkhang, a clan of Chintang Rai and married to Sangpang. | ||

Ganga is the elder sister of Kamala Rai and Kalpana's father's elder brother's daughter. She is known as 'mahili (second female sibling)' in her family. She is the second child of her parents. She is a student. She reads in class three. | ||
She is the daughter of Kamala's mother's elder sister. Her home is 5 minutes away upside from Kamalas'. She is a student. She studies in class seven. Sometimes she goes for exchange labour in her neighbours' field. | ||
He is a neighbour of Kamala and Kalpana. He is a farmer and a seasonal businessman. He is known as the 'Lekhane uppa' in the local Chintang lanuage. | ||

Harki Maya is the mother's mother of Child2, Kamala Rai and father's mother of the child1, Khem Kumar Rai. Her house is 10 minutes from Kamala's house. She does not stay in only one place. Sometimes, she goes to her eldest son who is in Chintang 5, sometimes to her younger son, Khem's father, sometimes to her daughters, Kamala's mother, and her elder sisters. She is Lengmuk and married to Khukkhang. | ||
Ambir Bahadur Rai is the father of Kamala Rai. He is a farmer. He often goes to work on wage to work in the field. Sometimes, he works as a porter. | ||
