Description:This the 4th session of the 4th monthly recording cycle of the child3, Kalpana for the Child Language Development study.
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Both these districts are situated in the eastern hilly part of the country.http://www.cpdp.uzh.ch
Kalpana and her siblings eat cucumber. Kalpana interacts with her mother in the kitchen while her mother is cooking meal. Children Kalpana including tease one another. They use abusing and taboo words in their language.The session is very interesting. W In this session, Total utterances = 388 Total utterances spoken by Kalpana =107 Total utterances (-COMM) spoken by Kalpana =107-11=96 Total utterances spoken in the presence of Kalpana =388-107= 281 There is not adult to adult conversation in this session.
All the utterances are in Chintang. Only two or three Nepali words have been mixed in this session.
Kalpana is the target child, Anita is her mother, Samjhana, Ranjana and Prithvi are her elder siblings, and Goma is the collector and the annotator of this session.
Anita Rai is the mother of the child, Kalpana. She is a housewife and a farmer. Sometimes she goes to work in others' farming field on wage.
Prithvi Narayan is the elder brother of Kalpana. He is also called Perte and Pecce. He is the only one son in his family. He sometimes goes to school with his elder siblings. He is Kamala's father's younger brother's son.
Samjhana is the eldest sister of Kalpana. She is a student. She is reading in class 3. She helps her parents in the household works also.
Kalpana is the youngest child of her parents. She has three elder siblings. She is the daughter of Kamala's father's younger brother.
Ranjana is the elder sister of Kalpana. She is also called Ranje. She is the second child of her parents. She is a student. She reads in class 1. She caretakes her sister Kalpana in her mother's absence. She is also the daughter of Kamala's father's younger brother.
