Description:This session was recorded in Beltar VDC. MR, the ngapong describes hongmadevi, the Puma goddess. How hongmadevi originated and the way of calling hongmadevi in mundhum language when worshipping is also said by ngapong.
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undcumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These two languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Both these districts are situated in the eastern part of the country.http://www.cpdp.uzh.ch
In this text, the ŋapoŋ has used the Puma language and he has used it in the Puma mundhum language. The kanya devi is the great goddes of the Puma and way of worshipping is stated in this session.
Puma ritual language is frequently used in this recording. Puma language is somehow related with the Bantawa and also the native speakers speak the Bantawa very easily. So it is used the Bantawa language in some particicular situations.
