Description:The signer watches 2 Mouse and Elephant cartoons. Each cartoon is divided into smaller parts. The first cartoon has 4 parts and the second one has 3 parts. The signer watches each part and the computer screen goes black. S/he is supposed to describe what s/he has seen. The addressee just listens and asks questions if s/he doesn't understand.
This corpus collects Turkish sign language TID data from children and also their parents. For this project, TID signers were recorded performing different tasks narratives of short picture stories/cartoon clips and engaging in free conversation. These recordings and their annotations are stored in this corpus.
MBerke was born deaf. She has deaf parents and a deaf sister. She started signing from birth. She is a high school graduate. She attended a primary school for the deaf and the high school for the hearing. She used to have wide connections with the deaf communtiy in Istanbul before she got married. Now she mainly stays at home and doesnt work. Her grandparents are hearing both from mother and from father. She uses her right hand to sign.
Beyza is a hearing person. She recorded the sessions and conducted the experiments. She mostly used speech.
Funda is a hearing person. She does not know Turkish sign language. She just recorded and checked the camera and angle. She tried not to interefere much.
Berke was born deaf. His parents are deaf. His grandparents from mother are deaf. His grandparents from father are hearing. He has no other sibling. He has a CI implemanted at the age of 4. He is attending a primary school for the hearing children. He is also attending a rehabilitation center for 3 years (twice a week). The primary language at home is Turkish sign language. He uses his left hand to write and to sign.
Batu was born deaf. He has deaf parents. His elder sister is hearing and she is 16 years old. His grandparents from mother are deaf but his grandparents from father are hearing. His parents are working so he stays with his hearing grandparents during the weekdays. Only during weekends, he stays with his own family. He attends a preschool for the hearing and he gets speech thearpy at a rehabilitation center twice a week. He has a CI implimanted at the age of 4.
SBatu is a hearing person born to deaf parents. She has also a deaf brother who is Batuhan. She is curretly attending a highschool for the hearing people. She is a bilingual person. She was mainly brought up by her hearing grandparents.
