Description: | The signer watches 2 Mouse and Elephant cartoons. Each cartoon is divided into smaller parts. The first cartoon has 4 parts and the second one has 3 parts. The signer watches each part and the computer screen goes black. S/he is supposed to describe what s/he has seen. The addressee just listens and asks questions if s/he doesn't understand. The addressee does not see the screen. The experimenter shows the pictures of chracters of the cartoon and gives little information about them. | |

This corpus collects Turkish sign language TID data from children and also their parents. For this project, TID signers were recorded performing different tasks narratives of short picture stories/cartoon clips and engaging in free conversation. These recordings and their annotations are stored in this corpus. | ||
Beyza is a hearing person. She recorded the sessions and conducted the experiments. She mainly used TID and tried not to use speech. | ||
Hukumran is a hearing person. He is a fluent signer. He prentended to be deaf in the experiments. He checked the order of tasks and gave instructions when necessary. | ||
Sevinc is a native deaf signer. She is a very active member of the Deaf community both in Istanbul and Izmir. She used to the former chair in Izmir Deaf Association. In the experiments, she conducted the experiments and gave instructions to the participants. | ||
Sude is a deaf child born into deaf parents. She is attending a preschool for the deaf in Istanbul. Her grandparents from mother are hearing and from father are deaf. She has no siblings. She does not have a CI. Her mother reported that she has been using Turkish Sign Language since she was 6 moths of old. She has also been attending a speech thearpy in a rehabilitation center since 2006 twice a week. | ||
