Description:ENGLISH: Study conducted by Takap Trumai Kayabi as a final requirement for the degree in Languages, Arts and Literature at the University of Mato Grosso (Brazil). The study explores two myths that are part of the Trumai oral tradition: (1) the origin of the water; (2) the origin of the Yamurikuma festivity. The myths were narrated by Takap's mother, and later transcribed, translated into Portuguese, and analyzed by him. The paper also contains illustrations made by Takap. ----- PORTUGUÊS: Estudo realizado por Takap Trumai Kayabi, para a conclusão do curso de Licenciatura em Línguas, Artes e Literatura na Universidade de Mato Grosso. O estudo explora dois mitos da tradição oral dos Trumai: (1) a origem da água; (2) a origem da festa de Yamurikuma. Os mitos foram narrados pela mãe de Takap, sendo a seguir transcritos, traduzidos para o português e analisados por ele. O trabalho também contém ilustrações dos mitos feitas por Takap.
The purpose of the project is to document Trumai, a genetically isolate language spoken in Brazil. The archive consists of a collection of texts in the language, plus other kinds of materials relative to the Trumai culture, such as photos, drawings, songs, educational materials, etc.
Study exploring two myths that are part of the Trumai oral tradition.
The myths are in Trumai. They are translated into Portuguese. The analysis is also presented in Portuguese.
The study was conducted by Takap Trumai Kayabi.
Takap speaks Trumai and Portuguese. Portuguese is his main language. He can understand Trumai very well, but sometimes has difficulties in speaking it. His mother is Trumai, his late father was Kayabi. Takap is the teacher of the Boa Esperança village, and is considered one of the best teachers of the Xingu reserve. He is very interested in the work of documenting the Trumai language and culture.
