This corpus collects Turkish sign language TID data from children and also their parents. For this project, TID signers were recorded performing different tasks narratives of short picture stories/cartoon clips and engaging in free conversation. These recordings and their annotations are stored in this corpus.
The child plays with toys including puzzles, little toys. There are two types of puzzles. One of them includes seasons and the other one is about a house and rabbits living in it. Some extra puzzles might have been used in some sessions. Little toys are of various figures including men, women, animals, gadgets, household tools. The child mainly plays with mother and sometimes with the deaf assistant. The sessions last about 30 - 60 minutes
Beyza is a hearing person. She recorded the sessions and conducted the experiments. She mostly used speech.
Taner was born deaf. He has deaf parents but his grandparents from both mother and father are hearing. He has no siblings. He attends the rehabilitation center twice a week for speech therapy.
She has hearing parents. She was born deaf. Her husband was also born deaf. The parents of her husband are hearing. She attended a school for the deaf in Goztepe, Istanbul. Her husband went to a school in Sivas. She has a great tendency to speak. She used to work where there were a lot of hearing people. Her husband works at a supermarket and there are a lot of hearing people in his work environment. She started school when she was 7 and finished in 1985. She only finished primary school. No secondary or high school education. Her husband finished secondary school.
Funda is a hearing person. She does not know Turkish sign language. She just recorded and checked the camera and angle. She tried not to interefere much.
