Description: | The signer sees a picture and when the screen goes black, s/he describes it to the addressee. The addressee is supposed to depict the picture that is described by the signer by using appropriate toy figures. There are 25 pictures. There is a folding screen between the signer and the addressee so while the addressee is using the toys to design what is described to him/her, the signer cannot see him/her. | |
This corpus collects Turkish sign language TID data from children and also their parents. For this project, TID signers were recorded performing different tasks narratives of short picture stories/cartoon clips and engaging in free conversation. These recordings and their annotations are stored in this corpus. | ||
MBus was born Deaf. Her parents are not Deaf, but she reports that they use Turkish Sign Language. She has also siblings using Turkish Sign Language. She is married to a Deaf man. She has two daughters and both of them are Deaf. She does not work. | ||
Bus was born Deaf. Her parents are both Deaf. She also has a Deaf elder sister. She is attending primary schoo for the Deaf 1st grade. She has also been attending a rehabilation center since she was 2. She goes there 2 a week. Her grandparents are not Deaf. She uses her right hand while signing and writing. | ||
Hukumran is a hearing person. He is a fluent signer. He prentended to be deaf in the experiments. He checked the order of tasks and gave instructions when necessary. | ||
Beyza is a hearing person. She recorded the sessions and conducted the experiments. She mainly used TID and tried not to use speech. | ||
Sevinc is a native Deaf signer. She was born in 1974. She has both Deaf parents. She has finished a high school for the hearing and attened to Eskisehir Integreation Center for the Deaf, but she quitted it. She is an active member of the Deaf community. She knows some other sign languages. | ||
