Description: | The signer watches 2 Mouse and Elephant cartoons. Each cartoon is divided into smaller parts. The first cartoon has 4 parts and the second one has 3 parts. The signer watches each part and the computer screen goes black. S/he is supposed to describe what s/he has seen. The addressee just listens and asks questions if s/he doesn't understand. The addressee does not see the screen. The experimenter shows the pictures of chracters of the cartoon and gives little information about them. | |
This corpus collects Turkish sign language TID data from children and also their parents. For this project, TID signers were recorded performing different tasks narratives of short picture stories/cartoon clips and engaging in free conversation. These recordings and their annotations are stored in this corpus. | ||
She was born deaf. Her parents are hearing. She has siblings who also use sign language. Her parents also used to use sign language with her. She uses her right hand. She is married to a man who is a native signer. She has one deaf daughter, who is Sude. She is working in a place where there are mainly hearing people, but she has many deaf friends and meet them a lot. | ||
Su is a deaf child born into deaf parents. She is attending a preschool for the deaf in Istanbul. Her grandparents from mother are hearing and from father are deaf. She has no siblings. She does not have a CI. Her mother reported that she has been using Turkish Sign Language since she was 6 months old. She has also been attending a speech thearpy in a rehabilitation center since 2006 twice a week. | ||
Beyza is a hearing person. She recorded the sessions and conducted the experiments. She mainly used TID and tried not to use speech. | ||
Hukumran is a hearing person. He is a fluent signer. He prentended to be deaf in the experiments. He checked the order of tasks and gave instructions when necessary. | ||
Sevinc is a native Deaf signer. She was born in 1974. She has both Deaf parents. She has finished a high school for the hearing and attened to Eskisehir Integreation Center for the Deaf, but she quitted it. She is an active member of the Deaf community. She knows some other sign languages. | ||
