Description: | This is a 8-picture story task in which there is an event. In this story, a boy takes his dog for a walk. Then the dog sees a cat and he gets nervous. He starts chasing the cat, but he also drags his owner. The cat climbs up a tree and dog's owner gets angry with the dog. The signer sees the whole story including 8 pictures and then goes black. The signer is supposed to describe the picture story to the addressee. The addressee listens and retells the story. The addressee does not see the screen. | |
This corpus collects Turkish sign language TID data from children and also their parents. For this project, TID signers were recorded performing different tasks narratives of short picture stories/cartoon clips and engaging in free conversation. These recordings and their annotations are stored in this corpus. | ||
Batunew's mother was born deaf. Her parents are Deaf. She has siblings who use Turkish Sign Language. She is married to a Deaf man. She has two children and both of them are Deaf. She does not work. | ||
Batnew was born in 19.01.2001. He has both Deaf paents and a Deaf elder sister. He has also Deaf grandmother and grandfather from mother and father. They are all using TID. He is attending 3rd grade in a school for the Deaf in Istanbul. He is using his right hand while signing and writing. He says that he became Deaf as a result of accident when he was 5 years old, but no evidence for that. | ||
Beyza is a hearing person. She recorded the sessions and conducted the experiments. She mainly used TID and tried not to use speech. | ||
Hukumran is a hearing person. He is a fluent signer. He prentended to be deaf in the experiments. He checked the order of tasks and gave instructions when necessary. | ||
Sevinc is a native Deaf signer. She was born in 1974. She has both Deaf parents. She has finished a high school for the hearing and attened to Eskisehir Integreation Center for the Deaf, but she quitted it. She is an active member of the Deaf community. She knows some other sign languages. | ||
