Description:The child watches 5 (1, 3, 5, 6, 7) cartoon out of 7 cartoons and narrates them to the addresse. The addresse listens and asks if s/he does not understand.
This corpus collects Turkish sign language TID data from children and also their parents. For this project, TID signers were recorded performing different tasks narratives of short picture stories/cartoon clips and engaging in free conversation. These recordings and their annotations are stored in this corpus.
The signer sees short vignettes on computer screen one by one. After seeing each one, the screen goes black and the signer is supposed to describe what s/he has seen on the screen. The addressee just listens and asks questions if s/he doesn't understand. The addressee does not see the screen.
Batu was born deaf. He has deaf parents. His elder sister is hearing and she is 16 years old. His grandparents from mother are deaf but his grandparents from father are hearing. His parents are working so he stays with his hearing grandparents during the weekdays. Only during weekends, he stays with his own family. He attends a preschool for the hearing and he gets speech thearpy at a rehabilitation center twice a week. He has a CI implimanted at the age of 4.
Batu's mother was born deaf. She has deaf parents and a deaf sister. She is married to a deaf man whose parents are hearing. She has a deaf boy and a hearing girl. She is working at a place where there are mainly hearing people. Her grandparents from mother and father are hearing.
This part gives information about the presence of other people during the session. The people who will be mentioned in this part do not participate the session actively, but watch it. Batu's grandmother is a deaf person who has hearing parents. She has two daughters who are both deaf. One of them is Batu's mother and the other is Berke's mother (our another participant). She was there during the session but she did not interfere.
Beyza is a hearing person. She recorded the sessions and conducted the experiments. She mostly used speech.
Funda is a hearing person. She does not know Turkish sign language. She just recorded and checked the camera and angle. She tried not to interefere much.
