Description:The story was recorded indoors.
The overall goal of the project is the documentation and preservation of the Hoocąk language. The project therefore includes the following sub-projects: (1) (audio- and video-)recording, analysing, processing and archiving a representative corpus of Hoocąk texts, (2) linguistic analysis and representation of texts that have previously been recorded by other linguists or anthropologists, (3) development of a comprehensive and linguistically consistent lexicon, (4) training of Hoocąk language instructors, (5) development of teaching material (6) further analyses (e.g. investigation of dialectal differences among Wisconsin and Nebraska Hoocąks)
MS12 prays for MS31's and his family's health and well being and also askes God/the Earthmaker to be with all the young people, the families and with the prisoners. He asks for blessings for all of them.
Hoocąk is the primary language used in this session. However, there are some sentences in English at the beginning of the text (following the greeting) that explain why the text is being produced.
FS4 works as multimedia specialist at the Hoocąk Language Division and has made many cultural recordings of which some now are part of the corpus of the documentation project. He is also responsible for archiving recordings related to Hoocąk language and culture.
FS18 works closely together with FS19. They are Hoocąk language instructors and teach at the Hoocąk House of Wellness as well as at the Casino in Baraboo. They often assist us and are considered to be very good speakers of the Hoocąk language.

JL has been concerned with the Hoocąk language since 2003 and has gained experience in field research.
MS12 grew up around Mauston, WI. He became a carpenter/roofer and worked few years for the legislature (until 2005). He acquired Hoocąk as a child and is fluent in the language. (Both parents spoke the language fluently.) MS12 is a N.A.C. member (Native American Church). As a prayer chief in the N.A.C. he is very experienced in prayers.
