Description:Projeto DobeS nr. 85 611 foi concebido por Hein van der Voort como um projeto de documentação interdisciplinar de língua e cultura no sudeste de Rondônia. O projeto envolve principalmente documentação de Aikanã e Kwazá, mas, ocasionalmente, também os grupos vizinhos traditionais Latundê, Salamãi e talvez Kanoê. Estes grupos vivem numa região que foi muita afetada por deflorestamento. As suas línguas e culturas estão sendo altamente ameaçados de extinção, enquanto poucos estudos (ou nenhum) foram feitos até agora. Este projeto DobeS foi aprovado pela Fundação Volkswagen em 2011. A instituição parceira alemã é o Instituto Max Planck Institute em Nijmegen, Holanda, administrado por Prof. Stephen Levinson. O projeto começou em fevereiro 2012, quando Lisa Katharina Grund foi contratado a meio tempo como doutoranda em antropologia. Em julho 2012 Eduardo Rivail Ribeiro foi contratado a tempo inteiro como pós-doc linguístico. O coordenador do projeto Hein van der Voort não está sendo financiado pelo projeto. DobeS project nr. 85 611 was conceived by Hein van der Voort as an interdisciplinary documentation project of language and culture in the southeast of Rondônia. It involves documentation principally of Aikanã and Kwazá, but occasionally also the traditional neighbouring groups Latundê, Salamãi and perhaps Kanoê. These groups live in a region that has been much affected by deforestation. Their languages and cultures are highly endangered, whereas little or no documentation and study has been done yet. This DobeS project and approved by the Volkswagenstiftung in 2011. The German partner institution is the Max Planck Institute in Nijmegen, headed by Prof. Stephen Levinson. The project started in February 2012 when Lisa Katharina Grund was hired half-time as an anthropological PhD student. In July 2012 Eduardo Rivail Ribeiro was hired as a full-time linguistic post-doc. Project leader Hein van der Voort is not financed by the project. Luiz Aikanã nasceu na região do Rio Tanarú em Rondônia, de paes Aikanã. Nos anos ´70 e ´80 Luiz assumiu a liderança no lugar de Manuel. Durante um tempo Luiz e Manoel junto tomaram conta da organizão da colheita de seringa, que as empresas brasileiras tinham abandonadona, na Terra Indígena Tubarão-Latundê. Luiz trabalhou por muitos anos como motorista e mecánico da reserva, e agora é responsável para os motores e instalações involvidas no poço artesanal, máquina de arroz, carros e geradores da aldeia Gleba, onde mora. Ele tem bastante filhos e filhas e está hoje casado com Fátima Latundê. No final dos anos ´80, Luiz gravou várias histórias do Novo Testamento em Aikanã, cujas arquivos de audio digitais encontram-se num website evangélico americano (http://globalrecordings.net/program/C23310). Nos anos ´90, ele foi um dos informantes de Aikanã para Ione Vasconcelos, e esta prestando serviços de informante também para Hein van der Voort desde 2005. Luiz Aikanã was born in the Tanarú region in Rondônia, from Aikanã parents. In the 1970s-80s Luiz assumed the leadership position of Manoel. During some time Luiz and Manoel together organised the rubber extraction which the Brazilian enterprises had quit, in the Terra Indígena Tubarão-Latundê. Luiz worked for many years as the driver and mechanic of the reserve, and today he is responsible for the engines and installations concerning the deep water well, the rice-peeling machine, the cars and generators of the Gleba settlement, where he lives. He has many sons and daughters and he is presently married to Fátima Latundê. In the late 1980s Luiz recorded several stories of the New Testament in Aikanã, the digital files of which can be found on an American evangelical website (http://globalrecordings.net/program/C23310). In the 1990s, Luiz foi um dos informantes de Aikanã para Ione Vasconcelos, e esta prestando serviços de informante também para Hein van der Voort desde 2005. Luiz está muito interessado na história e da mitologia do seu povo. Ele tem bastante conhecimento sobre isso e se lembra do momento quando os Aikanã deixaram sua vida tradicional.
Manoel Aikanã nasceu na região do Rio Tanarú em Rondônia, de paes Aikanã. Nos anos ´70, quando o INCRA começou expulsar os Índios e vender as suas terras, o pai de Manoel, cacique Capitão Pedro, entregou a liderança a ele. Manoel negociou com as autoridades brasileiras e consegiu a Terra Indígena Tubarão-Latundê, onde levou os Aikanã e os remanescentes dos Kwazá, Kanoê e Salamãi. Manoel não teve educação formal. Foi seringueiro até a metade dos anos ´90. Vive da roça e da caça na aldeia Gleba, na mesma T.I. Tem duas crianças com a sua ex-esposa. Está presentemente casado com a missionária indígena Queila Terêna, da missão Uniedas. Manoel foi informante de Aikanã de Harvey Carlson em 1984, e de Ione Vasconcelos no início da década de 90. Trabalha como informante de Aikanã com Hein van der Voort desde 2005. Mesmo sendo creente, Manoel está muito interessado na história e da mitologia do seu povo. Manoel tem uma postura de autoridade e está presentemente vice-cacique da reserva.
Manoel Aikanã was born in the Tanarú region in Rondônia, of Aikanã parents. In the 1970s, when the INCRA started to evict the Indians and sell off their lands, Manoel´s father, chief Capitão Pedro, handed his authority over to him. Manoel negotiated with the Brazilian authorities and managed to secure the Terra Indígena Tubarão-Latundê, where he took the Aikanã and the remaining Kwazá, Kanoê and Salamãi. Manoel has not had formal education. He worked as a rubber tapper until the mid 1990s. He has been living off swidden agriculture and hunting in the Gleba settlement on the reserve. He has two children with his ex-wife. He is presently married to an indigenous missionary Queila Terêna, of the Uniedas mission. Manoel worked as an informant of Aikanã with Harvey Carlson in 1984, and with Ione Vasconcelos in the early 1990s. He has been working as an informant of Aikanã with Hein van der Voort since 2005. In spite of being an evangelical ´creente´, Manoel is highly interested in the history and mythology of his people. Manoel has a posture of authority and is presently vice-chief of the reserve.
