Title:About Esroe
Esroe
Documentation of Nyagbo
Coverage:Ghana
Date:2008-07-20
Description:Esroe which lies on top of the mountain is the first place the Nyagbo settled when they first moved to the place. The chief of Nyagbo Esroe and his spokesperson meets with my research assistants to talk about issues relating to the town and the Nyagbo community as a whole. They welcome us acording to their custom and then go on to tell us about the clans that hold positions in the town.
This project aims to document the language and culture of Nyagbo, the ethnonym of which is Tutrugbu. Although also referred to officially as Nyagbo (also spelled Nyangbo), one of the groups that speak it prefers that we use the ethnonym. Tutrugbu is a Ghana-Togo Mountain (GTM) language spoken in the Volta Region of Ghana. The project was funded by the NSF Documenting Endangered Language Program from 2006 - October 15, 2009.
