Description:Fifth of eight sessions from a digital sound file derived from an orginal analogue tape recorded by Montserrat Ventura. In this tape U5 recounts the tale of a Tsachi who had a great talent for hunting pecarry which drew the wrath of the shamans.
The Tsafiki Documentation Project is designed to document the language and culture of the Tsachila, who live in the western lowlands of Ecuador. The primary goal of the project is to collect a wide variety of video material on various aspects of the culture including procedural texts, traditional narratives, information about shamanism and traditional medicine as well as everyday conversation. A large number of the texts, 20-30 hours will be completely processed with Shoebox annotation files which will be combined with the media files in ELAN. The remaining texts will be transcribed and translated into Spanish as well as English. In addition an on-going lexical electronic database is being created as well as a grammatical description of the language.
Fifth session of eight from a digitlized version of an orginal analogue tape collected in Naranjo by Montserrat Ventura. In this tape U5 an expert storyteller tells the traditional tale of a Tsachi with a talent for hunting pecarry. This draws the wrath of the shamans who curse him and cause him to run around with the peccaries. His family brings Wela, a traditional hero of the Tsachila to help them recover the young Tsachi, but it is too late.
The story is told solely in Tsafiki.
Montserrat Ventura is an anthropologist that has worked with the Tsachila since 1991.

He has trained for several years in this project and has basic linguistic knowledge.
