| Description: | In this session the consultant narrates the snake legend of Puama'u (Hiva 'Oa). The legend is accompanied by the corresponding rari, an indigenous Marquesan chant, which summarises the " moral" of the snake legend in form of a song. The rari song is sung in intervals in which each time the consultant explains/comments on the wording/lyrics of the rari song. | |
| Documentation of the various Marquesan dialects spoken on the islands of the Marquesas (French Polynesia). Broad collection of texts and different genres; documented topics include: food and food preparation, plant medicine, story-telling and mythology, trick languages, song and danse, fishing and navigation, aspects of material culture, plants and plant products, local history. | ||
| Ga is the linguistic researcher and data collector in the Marquesan DoBeS-project. | ||
| Tea is very knowledgable of the traditional Marquesan culture. He has lived some time on Muroroa and Tahiti, speaks Tahitian fluently, and some French and English. He has lived on most Marquesan islands and knows most of the dialects well. Tea grew up in Puama'u (Hiva 'Oa). | ||
| UP has learnt Marquesan as her first language, but speaks fluently French which has often become her major language. | ||
