OLAC Service Provider Registration
|
Registering as an OLAC Service Provider
Service providers who harvest OLAC metadata are encouraged to list their
service in the OLAC registry. The goals of the registry are:
- Provide a publicly accessible list of services based on metadata from OLAC
conformant repositories, making it easy for end users to discover services that
provide access tot language-related resources.
- Provide a review mechanism on behalf of the end-user community to ensure
that registered services do provide a service based on OLAC metadata.
- Provide a basis for participating in the governance of OLAC in the role of
"participating service".
This page allows you to register your service by entering information in the
form at the bottom of this page. Before doing that, please read
all of this instruction page so you understand what registration means.

Consequences of Registration
By registering your service you agree to the following:
- OLAC will review your service in order to ensure that it harvests OLAC
metadata and provides a service based on that metadata.
- The registry database will store all the information entered in the form
below. Contents of the registration database are open for public searching and
browsing.
- OLAC will offer members of the end-user community the opportunity to write
peer reviews of your service. When your service is reviewed, you will be given
a chance to write a response that will be posted with the review.
-
You are authorized to harvest and redistribute metadata from any data provider in the
archive list on the OLAC
server. Your service may display entire metadata
records, just a subset of the harvested metadata elements, or summary
statistics concerning the presence or content of metadata elements,
subject to the OLAC License
(TO BE FINALIZED).
- Your service will be considered to be a participating service and will be
allowed to participate in the governance of OLAC as described in the
OLAC process document.
Conformance Review
In order to qualify for registration with OLAC, a service must use the
OLAC protocol for
metadata harvesting to harvest metadata from OLAC data providers. It must
then present back to the OLAC user community some view of harvested metadata or
an interface to a process for manipulating metadata.
When you submit the URL of your service via the form below, the OLAC
Coordinators will review your service to ensure that it meets these
requirements.
Confirmation of Registration
Shortly after registration (usually within 24 hours) an email reporting the
results of the conformance testing and registration request will be sent to the
email address supplied in the form below.
