Title:Agreement in connection to syntax
Contributor:Ackema, Peter
Coverage:to be determined
Creator:Ackema, Peter
Description:It is a traditional idea that some syntactic properties of languages are related to the structure of their inflectional paradigms. However, the observations on which this idea is based are often rather impressionistic. This project aims to set up a database which can be used to make observations concerning effects of inflection on syntax more precise. The database should become instrumental in answering the questions whether certain inflectional properties necessarily have certain s yntactic effects or whether there are there merely correlations. Particular attention will be paid to agreement morphology in a number of typologically distinct languages, and its relation to the occurrence of empty subjects, empty objects and the syntact ic position of the verb in the clause.
