Description:Iakoutat Language. Johan Hampus Furuhjelm. 161 words: (1) is in hand of Furuhjelm's clerk or scribe, apparently transliterated from a lost Cyrillic original, probably collected by Hiermonk Nikita of Kenai mission, who visited Eyak every other summer from 1855-1867, probably in 1861. (2) clearly copied from (1), accompanied by a letter from Furuhjelm to Gibbs, April, 1862, in the hand of same clerk. NAA BAE ms. 538; see further: NAA BAE ms. 371 for Gibbs correspondence with Voevodski and Furuhjelm, 1856-1862. (3) published as Yakutat (Tlingit), complete, spelling slightly revised, derivative of (2), but not recognized by Gibbs and Dall as a different, non-Tlingit language. Excerpts printed in Dall 1870, Alaska and its Resources, Comparative Table p.550, for Yakutat (Tlingit), ca. 10 items from this vocabulary mixed with Tlingit. Citation: Yakutat language. (1) NAA. BAE ms. 537. 6 pp. (2) Copy by George Gibbs. NAA, BAE ms. 6 pp. (3) IN Gibbs and Dall, Contributions to North American Ethnology, Vol. I, Tribes of the Extreme Northwest. (BAE, 1877) pp. 122-133.
