This documentary film follows 77-year-old Marie Smith, the Last Speaker of Eyak (Na-Dene, Alaska), on an emotional journey back to her childhood home. As chief of the remaining Eyaks, Marie presides over a traditional Potlatch ceremony - the first in 85 years. The film also features Eyak experts Frederica de Laguna and Michael Krauss. A film to benefit the Eyak Recovery Project, produced and directed by Laura Bliss Spann. 60 min. Video-cassette. Filmed at a time when Marie Smith Jones was the only remaining native speaker of Eyak.
