| Description: | A song ("peroveta") and storytelling in Hiri Motu. Other languages could be from Central or Milne Bay Provinces. [Language notes provided by Steven Gagau, June 2017] Based on PARADISEC Team research and recording of PNG Peroveta Singers of Canberra in 2023, a Peroveta song about "Ruatoka" in MG1-008-A [3'19" -6'47"] has been identified as "DIRAVA ENA TAU TA". The Peroveta Singers recorded a new version of the "Ruatoka" song in PC2-13. According to Group coordinator, Deveni Temu, Ruatoka was the leading South Sea Island missionary that was brought by the LMS London Mission Society from 1871 coming from the Loyalty Islands over to the Torres Strait and to Hanuabada village. Ruatoka was in Hanuabada village teaching the Hanuabada villagers how to sing these songs, so 'Dirava Ena Tau ta' says 'this is a man of God named Ruatoka'. (Deveni Temu & Steven Gagau, November 2023). Language as given: | |
