Title:Phonological and Phonetic Aspects of Enggano Vowels

Enggano, an Austronesian language, is an isolate located geographically in a large area of related languages in Indonesia. A dedicated description of Enggano phonology has never been undertaken before. Yoder’s thesis describes aspects of Enggano phonology and phonetics, focusing on vowels and vocoid sequences recorded in initial, prestress and final position.

Yoder analyzes the Enggano phoneme inventory, describes the allophonic processes, and examines how vocoid sequences syllabify based on the preceding environment and the relative height of the two conjoined vocoids, contrasting the duration properties of nasal vs. oral vowels.
