Title:Browne's “Textus Blemmyicus Aetatis Christianae”: A Cushiticist's perspective
Abstract:Gerald M. Browne's “Textus Blemmyicus” of 2003 is the interpretation of the text of an ostracon of the 7th century, and it is the first interpretation which goes beyond the attempt of identifying single words. The aim of the present paper is to discuss Browne's hypothesis by considering a few alternatives, adding one or two lexical items, and gauging the evidence in the light of Beja data presently available.
