Description:This Suri/Baale-Amharic-English/English-Suri/Baale Dictionary contains around 1390 words which are organized in alphabetical order and includes mainly the words describing the lifestyle, traditions etc. of the Suri/Baale people. It is hoped that this dictionary will be helpful for many people: those of any age who are learning about the Suri/Baale language and culture; for anyone doing translation from or into the Suri/Baale language; and for the native speakers themselves who may desire to learn Amharic or English. Any improvements and suggestions would be appreciated. The Suri/Baale language is spoken by the people group in the Southwest of Ethiopia and in Southern Sudan that is called Baale, Balesi, Kachipo, Zilmamo. The area near Jeba, Tulge, Moga, moving toward the Sudan boarder along the river Merun is called the Baale area. Crossing the river Kidhabo, which separates Ethiopia and Sudan, Mewun, some small other villages, and Upper and Lower Boma are called the Kachipo area. The number of speakers is approximately 2500, according to the 2007 census. According to the Ethnologue there are 4200 Suri/Baale in Ethiopia. The number of speakers in Sudan is unknown. There is a need for more research.
